Committees

1. Communications

    This committee develops and helps to implement the Communications Plan. An activity of this committee is the publication of the Parent to Parent Newsletter.

    Membership is open to all parents and others interested in communicating about young children’s issues promoting quality early education and care, healthy development, parental involvement and leadership, and success in school.

2. Evaluation and Outcomes

    This committee oversees (1) Danbury Children First’s evaluation of its progress and (2) the child community outcomes planning and development process. Membership is open to parents and others in the community that are Danbury Children First members and wish to learn and/or use skills to carry out the this committee’s work. The Vice-Chair of Danbury Children First chairs this committee.

3. Finance and Fundraising

    This committee oversees and monitors the fiscal operations of the organization, develops an annual budget for recommendation by the board, and develops and assists in the implementation of a funding strategy for Danbury Children First. Membership is open to parents and others in the community that are Danbury Children First members and wish to learn and/or use skills to carry out the this committee’s work. The Treasurer of Danbury Children First is the Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committee.

4. Governance

    The Governance Committee is the decision-making board for the Danbury Children First Initiative. All policy, annual work plans and budgets are reviewed and approved by the Governance Committee. At least 80% of members are parent representatives. Each Danbury Children First task force and each committee has parent member representation on the Governance Committee. Parent Leadership Training Alumni can have up to 2 representatives on the Governance Committee. In addition, each of Danbury Children First’s 3 partners, the City of Danbury, the Danbury Public School District and United Way of Northern Fairfield County, have a representative on the Governance Committee. Annual nominations and elections are held to determine membership on the Governance Committee. To become a Governance Committee member, you must be an active Danbury Children First member for at least one year.

5. Multi-Cultural Parents Day Committee

    The Multi-Cultural Parents Day Committee plans an annual event that celebrates and appreciates the many cultures of Danbury. Entertainment, a parade of flags, information for parents, an art and essay contest for children, games and children’s activities are part of this event held in June each year. The admission to the event is an ethnic dish and all share a meal.

    Membership is open to parents and others in the community who share the vision that children will benefit by promoting understanding of diversity, by developing a community guided by respect and harmony, and by developing leadership of diverse parents.
